BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance.

British Geological Survey’s three-storey headquarters building at Keyworth, near Nottingham, received the East Midlands Centre for Constructing the Built Environment Sustainability Award 2009/2010 and was commended in the Constructing Excellence Legacy (Sustainability) Award 2009/2010.
