BSP is delighted to see that an inspirational £1 million rehabilitation centre, designed for those who have suffered catastrophic sporting injuries, is starting to take shape.

The building of the Get Busy Living Centre, set up by the Matt Hampson Foundation, has moved forward with work on the construction of an adapted access road now underway, officially marking the start of the project.

The ground-breaking ceremony took place at the Matt Hampson Foundation at Burrough-on-the-Hill, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, attended by a number of the local partners that are helping to make this exciting project a reality.

BSP is one of several businesses, many of which are offering their time, services, materials and expertise for free, involved in the scheme, including: construction company Willmott Dixon, professional services firm MDA Consulting, architects Corporate Architecture, engineering consultants Couch Perry Wilkes, and Salus, PR and marketing agency Cartwright Communications, earthmoving, ground engineering and restoration contractor, Barton Plant, and supplier, Peter Bennie, both part of The Bennie Group, and supplier GRS Roadstone Limited.

Matt Hampson, who was joined at the ground-breaking ceremony by current and former Leicester Tigers players, said: “It’s really exciting to finally see all the plans come together as we begin to construct the new facility. We are extremely grateful to our partners for donating their expertise and services and with their help we now have a start date which makes a once vision in the distance now become a set reality.

The former Under-21 rugby player, who suffered a life-changing accident during a training session in 2005, set up the foundation to offer support and assistance to those who have had similar life-changing events and he is the driving force behind this new facility.

The construction of the rehab centre involves creating a steel-frame on the original footprint of a former aircraft hangar to transform it into a state-of-the-art facility, which will be situated in the Burrough Court Estate. It will be a home for injured athletes where they can spend time with their families and build relationships with others in similar situations as well as offering services such as physical rehabilitation.

Soon to follow the access road will be the construction of the structural frame. A mezzanine floor will also be constructed inside the building which will double floor space and extend length of the building by one third.
